The U.S. National Whitewater Center, a man-made center for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking, is at the edge of one of the rivers. Award-winning Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens is nearby as well, providing more than 380 acres of breathtaking gardens. Belmont has pristine parks and trails, including Stowe Park located downtown and the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail winding through a nearby forest.
Education
Belmont has six schools in the Gaston County School system. There are no private schools within the city, but there are 55 private schools in the Greater Charlotte region. Belmont Abbey College and the Gaston College Kimbrell Campus are located in Belmont, and residents may access a number of colleges and universities in the region, including University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Queens University and more.
